I think it is vital for all writers to remember that we could be rejected for a number of reasons- not only because we're bad writers ;). (Which goes through my head at each rejection-LOL).

Thanks again for a great post!Marie Andreashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11422636765580836358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308411624957756191.post-4401959914827691392011-09-05T08:05:19.803-07:002011-09-05T08:05:19.803-07:00Thanks, Lorraine and Jill. At least that is going to be my mantra in a few weeks as I send out my queries. I have a spreadsheet with the agents I'm interested in, their information and guidelines, and as the rejections come in, more will go out. As always, will cross-post this EVERYWHERE!!Jill Thomashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16336227232690745889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308411624957756191.post-89790738256330236462011-09-04T21:25:23.108-07:002011-09-04T21:25:23.108-07:00Great post and really valuable, Erin! And obviously I agree with you on all counts! :)

I think at issue is the sheer volume of "how to's" that all purport to be THE instructional way to do things, whether it's the query letter or any other aspect of this journey. And while there may be through lines here or there, too often THE way to do things is as different (and contradictory!) as the number of people touting them.

Your #4 above is the absolute BEST advice you could give any writer. "Claim your craft" IS a clarion call to action and I, for one, am on board. I feel more confident already...:)

Thank you for all your input, Eric (and Jennifer!). It was a great session.

LorraineLorraine Devon Wilkehttp://www.lorrainedevonwilke.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308411624957756191.post-24169488720223188262011-09-04T20:35:44.394-07:002011-09-04T20:35:44.394-07:00Thank you, Jennifer!

It's an honor to teach beside you. Any industry pro who literally stands up to cheer a writer for a job well done is worth cheering for.

See you again soon!
